It’s been a while since I’ve done a favourites collection.  So I decided today was a good day to share some!  They are all wooden items that I’ve collected over the years, and all have their own little story…

Top left: Jordanian Bedouiun woman

This little treasure comes from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan when we visited there in 2000.  She was bought at a desert Arabic bazaar and reminds me of that incredible country, it’s beautiful people and the unforgettable time we spent there.

Top right: Giraffe push puppet

Apparently these toys with a disk on the bottom that you push to make them dance are called push puppets…I only just discovered that.  This one I bought on a trip to Melbourne in 2008 for Ethan when he was 2, (yes, I know, it’s not suitable for children under 3, but it lived on the top shelf of the bookcase until he was big enough to not try and digest its parts!) and has become a favourite of Ethan & Eli’s.

Bottom left: Babushka dolls

I have a small collection of these type of dolls.  They get called everything from Babushka dolls, Russion dolls, Matyroshka dolls and Nesting dolls.  Call them what you want, I adore them.  I have so far limited my collection to 3 sets which includes 14 individual dolls whey they’re all displayed in a row.  These ones were bought on a last-hurrah-girlfriend-trip to Hobart with my wonderful friend Jodie almost 2 years ago before she left to live in Africa serving with Mercy Ships

Bottom right: That Vintage Birdcage pendant

It was probably impossible for me to include a favourites collection without a bird, right?  This pendant was my Mother’s Day gift last year and is made by the very talented Sophie Hill of That Vintage, right here in Launceston.  Tasmanian wood and crafting, and worn often by a proud Tasmanian. 🙂

Hope your day is looking and feeling fantastic.

.owl egg cozy. October 24, 2011

I made a gift recently of an owl egg cozy for a grown-up girl who loves owls, the colour red and handmade things.  This owl has found a happy home, and will probably be enjoyed by my friend’s one year old daughter as well. 🙂

.craft drought. September 8, 2011

I have really missed being creative in the craft area in recent times…life has been full of many things, but that has not included much crafting!  So I am attempting to pick up somewhere I left off a couple of months ago.

Here are a couple of cards I got around to, plus the original cards that got me started on them.

You’re So Special by Kiara Lee (Cards Magazine, Jan 2010)

Happy Birthday by Alisha Gordon (Cards Magazine, Jan 2010)

I am about to head off on holiday with the fam, so I’m hopeful there will be some relaxing days whre I can enjoy making some bits and pieces again.

.so many ideas, so little time. July 22, 2011

I wish I didn’t need sleep.  Then I could complete all the things I need to do as well as enjoy endless creative time.  But as it turns out, I am one of those people that needs an optimum amount of 9 hours sleep a night.  So annoying.  That doesn’t work so well when you are a night owl and get woken up in the mornings by small people being very loud!!  But as much as I’d love to be a 7-hours-of-sleep-morning-person, I would not change the small, loud people part ever!

So in the interest of not dropping off the blogosphere, I am posting these random creative projects tonight before heading off to bed.

(I like the fighting robots in the background!)

I didn’t make the dress, just the flower on it.

Lollypop birthday card…

…with felt lollypop fridge magnet attached.
Hope you enjoyed these projects, and hope you have a fabulous weekend ahead of you!

.baby blues. April 18, 2011

If anyone has had or has observed the ‘baby blues’, as they call it, you will know it’s not a fun part of early parenting days.  But these baby blues are not the kind I am thinking of right now…I’m talking about the colour blue as the basis for a new baby card.  (o:

The design for this card was taken from a previous card that I made for a baby girl, just with a different colour theme.

It was supposed to be exactly the same, but in blue instead of pink.  But if you know me, you know I just can’t help myself and had to make it a little bit different to the original:

Either way, I love the ‘Always’ stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  That bird is so cute, and I have made so many cards & projects from it.  Thanks to my lovely friend Amanda for surprising me with it as a gift on my doorstep one day!  (You can visit her lovely blog at Blue Paper Doll).
